Let the Games Begin!

The Olympic Games is bringing out a competitive streak in our residents, with many of our Homes staging their own sporting events!

At McQuoin Park Residential Aged Care in Waitara, a series of games and events were held last week — including the Aussie thong toss, ribbon twirling, races and big ball bash!

“It’s been a really wonderful way to embrace the Olympic spirit and it has been such a joy to see the broad smiles on the residents’ faces,” says Karen, Recreational Activities Officer.

“We handed out 50 medals and everyone had a terrific time reminiscing about their favourite sports to watch and play, and what the Olympic Games means to them.”

At Villa Maria Centre in Unanderra, residents have been competing in a different sport each day.

“Last week we set up a basketball ring and the residents had so much fun, each taking a turn,” says Paula, Recreational Activities Officer.

“It’s been a great opportunity to do some exercise and to trial different sports, while having fun together as a group. There is also another incentive… with chocolate ‘medal’ prizes on offer!”

At Jemalong Residential Village in Forbes, residents from the Memory Support Unit have also been competing in their own Olympic Games events, including bowling, shoot ‘n shuffle and other ball-games.

“The Olympic Games is such a positive and collaborative event and has really inspired our residents to have some fun in their own way, and to emulate their favourite athletes over in Tokyo,” says Sally, Recreational Activities Officer.
